The Ontario Provincial Government has recognized that it is a challenging time for manufacturers in the province of Ontario. They believe the only response to ensure the future of manufacturing in the province, is for manufacturers to become more competitive and innovative. To be successful innovators in the face of global competition, the manufacturing sector must become more proficient in using all of the advanced tools that support innovation.
However, it is clear that many manufacturing enterprises often establish or cultivate innovation programs and subsequently bear the additional expense of upgrading the skills of their workers to use these new tools, techniques and processes. When times are tough, workforce development and training is the first thing to be sacrificed. Often training becomes the barrier which keeps industry from achieving greater and more rapid success.
The Ontario Government recognized the plight of the Ontario Manufacturers and has moved to implement a program with the Yves Landry Foundation to advance the state of innovation in Ontario, focused specifically on providing funding that would support training in this area. The Yves Landry Foundation was specifically selected to administer and drive this program to success.
--Training that will support the adaptation of new technology, new processes or procedures or any change within the company to support innovation. If a manufacturing company is adopting an innovative new process or concept in any area of its business, funding can be provided to share in the cost of retraining all involved employees.
--Training that will support and develop Highly Skilled Personnel in any area that leads to innovation. This can include the development of new engineering skills, training in the use of new software, hardware or other tools necessary to support innovation, retraining to embrace new technologies, new manufacturing methods, or any other business area that will make an Ontario Manufacturing Company more competitive in the Global marketplace. Ultimately it should lead to a situation where the applicant develops or enhances a culture that supports constant training and development to support ongoing innovation in all areas of the business.
